Master Plan & Salt Shed Study
Salt Shed Site Planning & DPW Facility Needs Assessment
The Town of Stonington selected Weston & Sampson to conduct a master plan and salt shed study to identify a preferred location and style for a replacement salt shed that would not conflict with current DPW operations or future development of the property.
Our team assessed current and future needs, developed conceptual alternatives, and prepared an engineering opinion of probable cost for the preferred alternative. We subsequently completed the design, permitting, and construction administration of a new fabric membrane-covered salt shed with pre-cast concrete block wall foundation and wood siding. Due to high visibility from a main road, the aesthetics of the building were a significant consideration during the design. Another site challenge was the presence of undocumented boulder fill within the salt shed footprint, which was addressed by using a geosynthetic reinforced soil pad.
