MGED Customer Service Renovations & Addition
Historic Utility Renovation with Customer Service Expansion
Middleborough Gas & Electric Department (MGED) partnered with Weston & Sampson to design historical renovations and an addition to their facility located at 37 Wareham Street, originally built in 1885.
As one of the oldest electric departments in Massachusetts, the building is listed on the Massachusetts Historical Register and within a National Historical District, creating additional design requirements.
The utilities operations had outgrown multiple locations, and the town decided to consolidate them into one building. As with most utility-owned buildings, there are site constraints and many areas not suitable for building. The design includes employee facilities, engineering offices, break and training rooms, and additional support and stock room spaces.
The building will have accessible facilities for its rate payers and users, and employees will have adequate space to work in a modern, secure, and technological facility. The project is on track to receive LEED® V4.1 BD+C Silver Certification.
