Salt Storage Facility
Pre-Engineered Salt Shed with Permitting & Turnkey Construction
Weston & Sampson assisted the Town of Needham with evaluation, design, permitting, and construction services for a new salt storage facility.
The site was complicated by a mixed use with the town’s transfer station, limiting developable area and complicating traffic patterns. We developed a site layout that would separate vehicle traffic and provide safe travel for patrons of the transfer station. The final design was a high-arch gambrel with poured concrete walls and two canopies, one for covered loading of vehicles and one for storage of equipment. Construction was challenging due to the small developable area, nearby public use of the transfer station, ledge, contaminated soils, and undocumented fill. Our team provided cost-effective engineering solutions to overcome these site challenges.
