Sanford Millyard
BSA-Awarded Master Plan Post-Industrial Redevelopment
Weston & Sampson was selected to lead an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Pilot Area-Wide Planning Grant project for the assessment, clean-up, and planning of the Millyard Area in Sanford, Maine.
Our multi-disciplinary team led redevelopment efforts to support this former textile manufacturing city’s commitment to high quality growth and economic success. The Master Plan for the millyard weaves historic textile infrastructure into a diverse tapestry of new uses and public spaces in order to revitalize the city. Strategies for remediation create a new energy landscape within a rehabilitated civic core. Redeveloped mill buildings form a new downtown center with housing, retail, education, office space, as well as cultural and social institutions, reconnecting the city to the Mousam River and to the greater region.
