Byram Park & Pool Facility Redevelopment
Award-Winning Park Redevelopment with New Community Aquatics Center
Weston & Sampson designed and engineered a new park and public outdoor pool facility for the Town of Greenwich. Weston & Sampson was selected to plan, design, and oversee the renovation of Byram Park to include a new park and public outdoor pool facility for the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut.
We provided multi-disciplinary services to complete the design of a 3,200-SF restroom/ concessions building, 700-SF pool filter building, entry building, and a large zero-entry pool with lap lanes, splash pad, and kiddie pool. We performed site layout of the proposed recreation and building elements and parking lot expansion to comply with local zoning and ADA standards. Our stormwater management design met the town’s low impact development (LID) and stormwater quality standards. We provided structural design of retaining walls and an exposed aggregate pool deck, as well as a low-pressure sanitary sewer system design that consolidated existing and new flows. Our landscape design complemented the surrounding environment, while our design of the primary facilities and pool area complied with new coastal resiliency regulations and FEMA elevation restrictions. Our team provided a full range of design, permitting, and architectural services, including architecture, aquatics, landscape architecture, engineering, permitting, MEP, and structural services. The project, which won the ACEC/CT Engineering Excellence Merit Award, consisted of a new pool facility with a restroom/concessions building, a pool filter building, an entry building, and a large zero-entry pool with lap lanes, splash pad, and a kiddie pool. In addition to the pool facilities, we redeveloped the park space to remove arsenic contaminants on site, restore the existing parking areas and park lands, and provide stormwater management through low impact development measures.
