Central School HVAC Update

School HVAC Modernization with Split-System Heat Pumps

The Town of Truro selected Weston & Sampson to provide an existing conditions assessment of the second floor of the Central School, a 2-story, 23,000-SF building.

We found that some of the HVAC system needed to be replaced, and the ventilation needed to be upgraded. Based on our recommendations, the town chose to add two new energy recovery units with existing split-system heat pumps and fin tube radiators to provide code-compliant heating and cooling and proper ventilation, while delivering energy savings with the heat recovered from the return air. The building will also run a new web-based building management system (BMS) that controls the changeover from the heat pumps to the fin tube radiators based on when the existing boiler heating hot water system will be more energy efficient or when the building needs extra heat.
