Fire Department HVAC
HVAC Systems Evaluation & Upgrade Plan for Emergency Facility
Weston & Sampson provided an initial MEP conditions investigation to assess HVAC deficiencies at the fire department in Winchester, Massachusetts.
Our evaluation found that the existing fan-powered VAV system did not maintain space temperatures or proper ventilation rates and that modifying the existing HVAC system would not provide the desired levels of comfort required. Two HVAC replacement options were evaluated, an all-electric air-cooled heat pump system and a DOAS ERV ventilation strategy with 4-pipe ceiling-mounted ducted fan coils that reused the building’s air-cooled chiller and cast-iron section hot water boilers. Based on costs, the town decided to move forward with the second design strategy.
