Conceptual Design for Headworks Upgrades
Headworks & Pump Station Upgrade Concepts with Future Expansion Plan
Weston & Sampson was selected by the City of Laconia to evaluate alternatives for upgrading the headworks at the Black Brook pump station.
The station’s existing sewage grinders are unable to manage the rags and bulk items in the influent flow, which routinely obstruct the headworks, resulting in the additional labor and effort by the operators who must remove these obstructions manually. To address this issue, our team evaluated multiple screening configurations and prepared a conceptual design for the headworks room which conformed to the city’s requirements while adapting to the unique needs of the station. We assessed flow capacity, headloss, efficiency, space requirements, and ease of operation and maintenance for each screening alternative and provided planning level costs for each alternative to the city. The pump station headworks are anticipated to be upgraded as a Design-Build project.
