CSO-05 Evaluation & Sewer Modeling

Combined Sewer Overflow Evaluation with Flow Monitoring & Mapping

Weston & Sampson was selected to provide combined sewer overflow (CSO) services to the Auburn Water & Sewerage District in response to a Maine DEP order to eliminate CSO outfall CSO-005.

The District, which operates more than 110 miles of sewer pipe, 2,200 manholes, and 23 pump stations, has been separating sewers since the 1970s. Despite years of successful CSO abatement, CSO-005 experienced recent sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) events, prompting the DEP to re-license it as an active CSO. To support the District’s compliance, Weston & Sampson is reviewing historical records, creating detailed project mapping, establishing a metering program, and smoke testing 65,000 linear feet of sewer. Additionally, our team is developing a hydraulic model of the downstream interceptor, identifying alternatives to eliminate CSO-005, and preparing a comprehensive report. We are working closely with District staff to finalize the report and support project meetings as needed.
