WWTP Design & Construction

A high-performance BNR facility built to meet stringent effluent standards

Weston & Sampson provided planning, preliminary engineering, design, and construction services for the Bucksport Wastewater Treatment Plant, a 5 MGD average (12.5 MGD peak) activated sludge BNR facility developed to replace an undersized lagoon system and support significant growth within the service area.

The facility was designed to meet stringent effluent limits, including low BOD, TSS, ammonia, and nitrate requirements, through advanced biological nutrient removal and tertiary deep-bed sand filtration. Treated effluent is discharged to rapid infiltration basins.

The project was commissioned in 2015 and delivers reliable, high-quality treatment while providing flexibility for future demand.
