Gravity Sewer & Pump Station Evaluation & Design
Sewer System Upgrades with Metering & Capacity Analysis
Weston & Sampson was selected by the Town of Bedford for the Middlesex Turnpike Gravity Sewer and Pump Station Evaluation and Design project.
The project aimed to assess the condition and capacity of the existing sewer system, which had experienced frequent failures and maintenance issues, and to design improvements to support increased flows from new commercial developments. Our team conducted field investigations including CCTV inspections, manhole inspections, flow metering, and surveys. Using this data, along with pump station records and development projections, the team performed a comprehensive condition assessment and capacity analysis. Design recommendations included upsizing portions of the gravity sewer, converting the existing vacuum-prime pump station to a submersible system, extending and upsizing the force main, and incorporating site improvements such as a retaining wall. The Town is moving forward with phased construction of the recommended upgrades to improve system reliability, support future growth, and optimize available funding.
