Littleton-Boxborough Water Supply Connection
Regional Water Supply Connection with Hydraulic Modeling
Weston & Sampson collaborated with a team of stakeholders and state agencies to design a new drinking water well source in Littleton, Massachusetts.
The project goals included providing additional capacity for the Littleton water system, and extending the water system to deliver high-quality drinking water to thousands of residents and businesses in Boxborough, Massachusetts. Our team assisted with the development of a new 0.5-mgd groundwater source; design and construction of an associated pump station and a water main to transport water to the existing treatment plant; extending the Littleton Electric Light & Water Department’s (LELWD) distribution system into Boxborough; new source approval permitting; Interbasin Transfer Application assistance; environmental impact evaluations; mitigating contamination from sodium, chloride, perchlorate, and PFAS in Boxborough’s wells; and enhancing fire protection services in Boxborough. This project represents a critical advancement in securing safe, clean water for Boxborough, demonstrating the power of collaborative efforts and innovative solutions in addressing long-standing environmental challenges.
