Sewer System Improvements Design

Sewer System Redesign with Hydraulic Modeling & Construction Phasing

Weston & Sampson was selected to provide design and construction administration/resident representative services for improvements to the Surfside Road Area Sewer System in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Our team conducted a capacity analysis of the wastewater collection system by developing a hydraulic model of the system based on future tributary wastewater flows, we recommended a series of collection system improvements based on the results. The design of the sewer system improvements included field investigations (soil borings and survey), hydraulic modeling of the gravity sewer and force main systems, preliminary and final design of the pipelines and pump station, traffic management planning, permitting, compliance with the Nantucket Historic District Commission building requirements, archaeological/cultural monitoring and coordination, easement plans, hazardous materials assessment for the demolition of the existing pump station, and public outreach to keep the island residents updated on the project. We also helped the town secure funding through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.
